The Beard claps back at the Greek Freak
There seems to be rumblings around the NBA that there is beef between two of the brightest stars. Houston Rocket’s (38-20) all-star shooting guard and 2018 NBA MVP, James Harden has a bone to pick with Milwaukee Bucks’ (50-8) All-star forward and 2019 NBA MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo.
James Harden has recently sat down with ESPN’s Rachel Nichols and had an interview discussing his team’s new small ball style of play and the MVP rankings currently in the NBA. Another topic that came up in the interview was Giannis’ comments on his play style during the 2020 All-Star Draft.
When Giannis was selecting players for Team Giannis in the 2020 NBA All-Star game against Team LeBron, he refused to select James Harden. During the draft, Antetokounmpo was asked about Harden and his play style. Giannis replied, “I want somebody that’s gonna pass the ball, that’s all I want.”
When Nichols brought up the incident, Harden responded “I don’t see what the joke is…”. You can understand his confusion, because James Harden has been in the Top 10 rankings for assists for the past 5 seasons. He has also averaged more assists than Giannis Antetokounmpo in each of those seasons.
James Harden had an interesting comment on a play style description in the NBA that aligned with Giannis’ play style. Harden states, “But I wish I could just run and be 7 feet and just dunk.” According to NBA.com, Giannis is listed at 6’11 and 63.1% of his shot attempts are less than 10 ft from the basket.
This exchange of words between the two MVPs will has the NBA talking about a rivalry brewing. The Bucks will host the Rockets on March 25 and this will definitely be a game worth tuning into.
